Wart Removal

What are warts?

Warts are small, harmless skin bumps generated by the human papillomavirus (HPV). A wart typically looks flesh-colored, and the surrounding skin will be rough.

How are warts treated?

Freezing

Freezing a wart or Cryotherapy, must be performed by a dermatologist. It functions by spraying the wart with liquid nitrogen or another extremely cold liquid. As a result, the wart freezes and has its skin cells removed. The wart can also be removed using salicylic acid.

Burning and laser

Local anaesthesia is used for methods such as burning, surgical removal, and laser wart removal. These procedures are used less frequently because they can leave scars.

Immunotherapy

These treatments boost the immune system to recognise and remove wart-infected skin cells. This treatment is time-consuming and might be irritating.

When should I Visit a doctor ?

  • You get bothered or pained by the wart.
  • You have warts on your feet, genitals, or face.
  • The wart seems infected because it is red, bloated, and heated.
  • You either have numerous warts or the warts are growing.
  • Your immunity is weakened.
  • You are expecting or intend to become pregnant.

What are the symptoms of warts?

The category of wart determines how it looks. There are numerous varieties of warts:

  • Common warts: Common warts (verruca vulgaris) are tiny, lifted, typically rounded skin growths with a rough surface that looks like the top of a cauliflower. On the hands, elbows, and knees, these warts frequently form.
  • Plane or flat warts: Plane or flat warts are flat warts that typically develop on the hands and face and are yellow in colour. Children are the most frequently affected, and they frequently spread and group together.
  • Plantar warts: Plantar warts are warts that produce on the feet, heels, or toes of the foot. A plantar wart typically does not rise like other warts and may even be uncomfortable to walk on due to the weight of the body pushing the wart further into the skin. You might see a spot of white skin that has a little black dot or dots in the centre.
  • Filiform warts: Filiform warts are long and thin warts that generally develop on the neck, armpits, or eyelids.
  • Mosaic warts:Mosaic warts are more prevalent on the hands and feet and develop in groups.
  • Subungual or periungual wart:Subungual or periungual warts are warts that develop between or near the cuticle.
  • Mucosal warts: Mucosal warts may develop on the lips, on the cheeks, within the nose, in the airway, or in the area of the genitals.
